What purpose would you use it for?
Twitter is mainly used for sharing news and keeping up to date with the latest news, businesses friends or favourite celebrities are up to. It is a quick and effective means of communicating, it also has different levels of privacy. It does this by users putting up posts aka tweets, twitter moments or posting. Twitter also includes a direct messaging service alternatively known as dm. Tweets are text based with 280 character limit, pictures and videos can be added too.
What aspects of its design can you personalize?
You can customize your twitter account in a variety of ways from your profile picture, to the background picture on your home page. You can change the colours of your twitter background, texts, links, sidebar and sidebar border. The user can also put in their personal information into their account, things such as birthday, location, relationship status.
How can you connect with other users?
Twitter allows its users to communicate in a variety of ways such as allowing you to posts tweets, these are just pieces of text/images/videos which you might find interesting and would like to share with your followers. Twitter also lets you privately message people alternatively known as direct messaging or DM for short, these posts mean that no one except from the person you have mailed can see the message. Another means of connecting to people on Twitter is through giving you the option of choosing who you want to follow on the site.
What tools can you use within the site?
There are several special features that sets Twitter apart from other social media sites such as, hashtags and retweets, favourite tweets. Hashtags allow a topic to become trending, this means that a lot of users on the site are all talking about the same thing. A retweet is something that another user has posted but you would also like to share with your followers these might have been posted by a Celebrity, Journalist or might even just be a friend. It also gives you the option of privately customising what data the site is allowed to collect from you.
Twitters rules for Etiquette
Twitter has much the same rules as most social media websites. Mainly things such as no offensive speech such as homophobic or racist remarks. Or spam items such as constantly posting the same item for marketing purposes. There is also no one under the age of thirteen allowed to create a profile, unlike Facebook or Reddit. In addition, Twitter has a general code of ethics and etiquette, meaning everyone should treat each other the way they would like to be treated.
